Myosotis

Find back the lost memory in this Colorless World

Myosotis is a music game designed for PC/PS4 platform written with Unity3D and C#. It is the final capstone project of the Game Development course (CS 494) in UMich. In this project, I'm mainly responsible for game control and UI/UX development.

Above is the Trailer of Myosotis. As a music game, Myosotis has several distinguishing features that made it popular among players during the Seasonal Game Expo in UMich.

Direct Mapping from Controller to UI

We adopt PS4 controllers for playing this game. The beatmap is in the shape of a ring while key notes would keep emerging from the center of the ring and moving towards its boarder. Users are asked to press the corresponding button on their PS4 controller when the key reaches the boarder. Since on PS4 controller, the eight bottons are also arranged in a circle-like shape, we've received the feedback that the mapping from controller to UI is quite clear and easy to get familiar with.

Color the World!

The most interesting artistic idea that our group are proud of is the gradation fo background color. The main story of Myosotis is to discover the lost memory of player. Each song is a piece of forgotten memory, and when the game begins, the background would be completely in white. However, while player is keeping getting points by hitting the notes, a specific painting related to that memory would start to emerge in the background, in the form of black & white sketch. After getting more points, the background image will even be colored with fascinating tones!

Attractive Stories

As is mentioned in the above section, our game is story-centered. With player clearing more and more songs, stories in the form of tiny video cuts will be gradually unlocked and displayed. This is a music game, but also a game showing a child's most unforgettable memories in her life. Who am I? Why I lose my memories? What happened in the past? Explore the entire story by yourself!
